Many government communication professionals want to be an even bigger part of the Government Social Media association. Serving on a committee has a direct impact on the community you love, and is a great way to get to know other dedicated professionals in government!
Committee members are recruited annually, with appointed terms starting after annual council elections.
The Awards Committee supports the Golden Post Awards, celebrating outstanding social media use by government agencies in the U.S. and Canada to elevate the SocialGov profession. Responsibilities include judging entries, coordinating the virtual finalists' reception, and working closely with Team GSM to plan and execute the in-person ceremony and onsite logistics.
Co-Chairs: Frances La Rue & Angela Ramirez
The Marketing Committee helps shape the association’s public image by amplifying Team GSM content, creating short-form GSMA promotional videos and promoting GSMA activities, events, and the work of other committees. Committee members attending GSMCON may also support content creation guided by Team GSM.
Co-Chairs: Laurel McJannet & Angela Ramirez
The Membership Committee enhances the member experience by helping new members feel welcomed in the GSMA space within the GSM network, fostering connections through the GSMA Buddy System, and celebrating members by coordinating community spotlights.
Co-Chairs: Kaitlin Keeler & Laurel McJannet
The Training Committee helps government social media professionals build foundational skills by developing and delivering structured training opportunities. The committee is responsible for planning and hosting (up to 3 speakers) the annual GSM 101 Workshop at GSMCON and coordinating two annual GSMA webinars in collaboration with Team GSM.
Co-Chairs: Mikayla Moskov & Zack Seipert
Committees generally meet via a one-hour Zoom meeting once per month, plus additional responsibilities outside of meetings.
The Awards Committee generally involves more time commitment from January through the spring when the Golden Post Awards is held at the annual Government Social Media Conference, as it involves judging and planning the awards ceremony.
Appointments are typically for one year, starting when committees are formed shortly after council elections are held in August. Committee members may re-apply each year to express their interest in being appointed again.
