Association Committees

Members of our professional association can get involved by serving on committees that directly benefit our community and elevate your profession!

Professional Association Committees

Many government communication professionals want to be an even bigger part of the Government Social Media professional association. Serving on a committee has a direct impact on the community you love, and is a great way to get to know other dedicated professionals in government!

Committee members are recruited annually, with appointed terms running from July through June. 


Awards Committee

Provides direction to maintain and grow an exceptional recognition program that empowers and celebrates work by individuals and agencies to elevate the SocialGov profession. The annual Golden Post Awards program honors outstanding use of social media by government agencies in the United States.

Membership Committee

Supports the professional association membership experience by providing insight to recruit and retain members, identify their needs, help them connect with one another and their regional representatives, while also elevating the profession and member accomplishments.

Training Committee

As the social media landscape continues to evolve, it is essential that government social media managers evolve with it. The Training Committee identifies best practices and develops tools that ensure members gain the skills to confidently and effectively communicate their organization's messages.

Committee FAQs

Committees generally meet via a one-hour Zoom meeting once per month, plus additional responsibilities outside of meetings.

The Awards Committee generally involves more time commitment from January to March, as it involves judging and planning the awards ceremony.

Appointments are typically for one year, though recruitment for the first-ever committees is kicking off in October 2021, so the term for the inaugural committees is from November 2021 through June 2022

Moving forward, committee member appointments will run from July to June (with applications being accepted in June, appointment in July, and the term running through the following June). 

Committee members may re-apply each June to express their interest in being appointed again.
