Frequently Asked Questions

The Government Social Media Conference (GSMCON) is the largest social media conference in the United States for government agencies. Everyone interested in learning how to strategically use social media in government is welcome to participate. Our attendees represent city, county, state, federal and military entities. Representatives of educational institutions, international agencies and private industry are also welcome to participate.

The Biggest Little City was rated first out of several potential locations when polling past conference attendees! GSMCON2015 and GSMCON2016 were held in Reno, and members on Team GSM call this city home. There's much to do in the area; at the Grand Sierra Resort, attendees can meet on their own for optional, after hours activities like the on-site movie theater, arcade or bowling alley, or can take a quick trip to Reno’s Midtown District for farm-to-table restaurants, live music and boutique shops. We’re also excited to offer a complimentary shuttle service to Lake Tahoe on Tuesday night!

In-Person Ticket holders can participate in the physical event on-site in Reno. Those with an In-Person Ticket will also be able to watch online recordings of most sessions on-demand 10 days after the event, and will have access to view those recordings for 90 days. In-Person Ticket holders can upgrade your experience to either the All Access or VIP add-ons. The All Access Add-On features three additional sessions including WWYD scenarios, Live Reviews and PowerTalks. The VIP Add-On includes access to all workshops, special All Access sessions, a planned networking activity only for VIPs, bonus swag and a VIP-only charging station.

While the live event is happening, Virtual Ticket holders can view online livestreams of most general/breakout sessions and can interact with other online participants. They will also be able to watch online recordings of most sessions on-demand 10 days after the event, and will have access to view those recordings for 90 days.

The hybrid conference brings the best of what we’ve learned over the past year with preferred learning styles, as well as gives us the most flexibility to meet the needs of agencies that are at different levels of reopening and allowing travel again. This hybrid model allows GSMCON to continue to be an experience filled with valuable training, networking & camaraderie — just now with options to attend either in-person or online!

Yes, if in-person tickets haven’t sold out. If you purchase a virtual ticket now, you’ll have an option to upgrade your ticket to in-person. Please reach out to us via email before 30 days prior to the conference to upgrade.

Our priority is the safety of our event attendees. We'll continue to monitor federal, CDC, state and venue updates as the event approaches and will report any changes, recommendations, guidelines and safety protocols to attendees.

Yes! In-person attendees can go to the Golden Post Awards on Wednesday, and we’ll also be livestreaming the event so those who purchase virtual tickets can participate online. More details on how to submit your agency’s work will happen soon.
