Congrats! Council election results are in.

May 24, 2021

The results are in for the Government Social Media professional association Membership Council election!

Following a nomination period and an extremely tight race for the Southeast and Southwest council terms and vacancy in the Northeast region, we’re thrilled to introduce you to the nominees who received the majority vote. In the West region, there was a tie between Cynthia Espinosa and Zach Whitney, in which we’ll hold a runoff election starting this Thursday, May 27.

Congratulations to the newest additions to the Government Social Media professional association Membership Council!

  • At-Large Federal position: Justin H.S. Breaux
  • Northeast region: Emily Allen Lucht
  • Southeast region: Chelsea Sawyer
  • Southwest region: Kristen Waggener
  • West region: It’s a tie! Run-off elections begin this Thursday.

Justin, Emily, Chelsea and Kristen, along with returning council members Warren Kagarise (Northwest region) and Jessie Brown (Midwest region), are elected volunteer advisors who represent professional association members in each region across the United States. They serve as advisors for the association, get to work on important projects, establish rapport with social media networks and serve in various leadership positions to support socialgovs just like you.

West Region Runoff Election

How this works is that we’ll send West region members another virtual ballot on Thursday, May 27 to vote for either candidate — we encourage every member in the region to vote! If the runoff election results in another tie, the tie will be broken by the two returning council members and the executive director. Results of the runoff election will be announced on Friday, June 4.
