Meet Mamiko! New West region Membership Council rep

Feb 24, 2023

We’re excited to announce a new representative is joining the Government Social Media professional association Membership Council!

Following a nomination period, Mamiko Carroll, with the Hawai’i State Foundation on Culture and the Arts, was selected to fill an open vacancy for the West region of the Council. Her appointment will run through the remainder of the term (August 2023).

Mamiko serves as a one-person communications team in the Information Specialist role for her state government entity, and we’re excited to welcome her insights to the Council. Members are able to connect with her online in the new Regional Groups on the association’s platform.

Previous West region representative Zach Whitney vacated his seat after recently taking a role outside of government. During his time on the Council, Zach co-led the Membership Committee, assisting with the initiation of a yearly member survey and the formation of Regional Groups. While we’ll miss his dedication to the government social media community, we wish him the best on his new endeavor!

Mamiko joins fellow Membership Council representatives:

  • Southwest region: Kristen Waggener (President)
  • Midwest region: Katie Grant (Vice President)
  • Northwest region: Marie Tweedy
  • Northeast region: Andrew Belanger
  • Southeast region: Chelsea Sawyer
  • West region: Mamiko Carroll

This dedicated group of individuals are volunteer advisors who represent professional association members in each region across the United States. They serve as advisors for the association, get to work on important projects, establish rapport with social media networks and serve in various leadership positions to support fellow socialgovs.

What is the GSM professional association?

It’s the only professional association you’ll find specific to your unique field — and the most economical memberships with dues at only $79/year — for public sector social media professionals in the U.S.! If you’re not already one of the 400+ members, it’s a place to genuinely connect with other socialgovs actively employed full/part-time by a local, state, regional or federal agency, academics or as an elected or appointed official.

We focus on providing resources specific to pain points we hear from government social media professionals and promoting best standards for not only your own professional development, but also the growth of the entire socialgov field. Here’s a snapshot of what joining the professional association means to you:

  • Monthly webinar training hosted by socialgovs and experts. Replays of most webinars are available to watch on-demand.
  • Regional Groups where you can easily interact with fellow government social media professionals, talk regional specifics and connect with your Council representative.
  • Complimentary headshots & member-only meetup at the Government Social Media Conference.
  • Access to a membership directory to search, message and connect with each other.
  • Exciting additional resources coming soon!
