The Local Host Committee (LHC) is an advisory group of appointed volunteers that help plan the Government Social Media Conference. Members are typically highly engaged social media or communication professionals in the public sector. We're excited to bring GSMCON2026 to New Orleans and thrilled to form a group of dynamic professionals who know major players in the region and can help get key agencies involved.

Responsibilities
LHC members help make GSMCON an even greater success! You'll participate in various duties, which may include:

Participate in one Zoom planning meeting per month

Producing creative (blog posts, testimonials, social media posts)

Local sponsor outreach
-
On-site set up/teardown
-
On-stage remarks (expo stage hosting, introducing keynote speakers)

Breakout session monitoring (liaise with A/V at the tech table, monitor virtual chats, assist with passing the Q&A mic, etc.)

Networking ambassador and activity planning
We recognize that some people are comfortable speaking onstage while others enjoy working behind the scenes magic, so we'll work with members to find suitable opportunities that work for everyone!
The 2026 LHC term runs through May 2026 with a final wrap-up meeting after the conference ends.

Benefits
Members of the LHC receive complimentary admission to GSMCON and up to three nights stay at the event venue. Local LHC members may prefer to drive to the venue daily.
LHC members also receive recognition for their participation on event website, in the event program and verbal recognition at the event. Your service on the LHC will make a significant impact on the success of the event!

Requirements
Local Host Committee members typically work in the region where GSMCON is being held, and for 2026, that's New Orleans. We're also accepting applications for anyone who calls The Bayou State home! If your agency is located anywhere within Louisiana, we welcome you to apply.
Members of the committee must be employed by a government agency or public education institution and have involvement in social media or communications for their entity in some capacity. Applicants must receive any necessary agency approval to participate as an LHC member prior to submitting your application.
Previous attendance at GSMCON is very helpful, but not required. A signed agreement between incoming members and Government Social Media LLC will be required and LHC members must agree not to disclose any private information such as attendee registration information, operational data or explicitly private information. Committee members must agree to represent the best interests of the conference and demonstrate respect for each other, integrity and civility throughout their term.

Application Process
Fill out the Local Host Committee application, and we'll let you know if you've been selected by the end of September 2025. Applications are due by 5pm PT Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
Frequently Asked Questions
LHC members must work within the state of Louisiana. We may have other opportunities to help with the event. Please reach out to us!
We will review applications, reach out to candidates if follow up is needed and will select committee members no later than the end of September 2025.
For those driving in, self-parking at the venue is $25 per day.
LHC members will have access to the conference meals included as a part of a normal ticket: Continental breakfasts and lunches on Tuesday and Wednesday, and continental breakfast only on Thursday.
If you're selected to serve on the LHC and you've recently paid for your registration, we'll refund your registration fee.
