What is GSMCON?

GSMCON, happening March 29-31, 2022, is the largest social media conference in the U.S. for government agencies, where we’re looking forward to bringing together people who work in government social media both in Dallas, Texas at the Sheraton Dallas Hotel as well as those joining the virtual livestream.

Team GSM is planning a special hybrid event making the conference even more accessible to the whole community. No matter what ticket type you pick, you’ll walk away — or log off — from a fulfilling experience making you an even more confident, efficient government social media professional.

Keynotes, special activities & sessions

At GSMCON2022, it’s much more than just learning the latest need-to-know socialgov info — it’s about building relationships, meeting your support system, solving challenges and celebrating wins together.

You’ll hear keynotes from Meta, Twitter, NASA, legal expert Mark Weaver, LinkedIn, the GSM professional association council and TikTok and sit in on unique sessions that match your unique role. Want to up your customer service experience? How to give bad news on social media better? Want to learn more about analytics or incorporating accessibility into your strategy now? Over 30 speakers crafted sessions filled with best practices and tangible takeaways for you to start on your agency’s social media today.

Want to elevate your experience? Upgrade to an All Access ticket to join in on special sessions — including Live Reviews, What Would You Do scenarios and PowerTalks — only available for these ticket holders. In these sessions, we take a hands-on approach where you’ll work directly with your peers to solve real problems you may face in real time. In these four special sessions, you’ll grab some garlic and a wooden stake to effectively conquer time vampires, walk through how to handle social media on a multi-incident day, learn how you can spice up bland topics and take your content to the next level on Facebook and Instagram.

For our in person attendees, make sure to bring your social media policy! During this special activity, Kaitlin Keeler & Sarah King will guide you on how to reboot your social media policy right at GSMCON with your fellow peers. You’ll join this dynamic duo for a brief conversation laying the building blocks for the best social media policy, what to include, how to write it and how to implement and enforce it, and then, you’ll practice what you learn in small groups with your peers.

Add-on, pre-conference workshops

You can also add one (or all!) of these pre-conference workshops happening on Monday, March 28 for only $75 each. Hosted by leading industry experts, we’re taking a deeper dive into some of your most requested topics to get the latest need-to-know info important to govies who handle social media.

  • Smartphone Video Lab: Create Great Video Content with Confidence! (hosted by former County of Sacramento PIO Kerry Shearer ("The Livestream Expert")
  • Legal & First Amendment Issues for SocialGov (hosted by Mark R. Weaver, a leading crisis communications advisor and attorney for public sector clients)
  • Government Social Media 101 — Best choice if you’re a new socialgov or want to learn the basics, completely revamped for 2022!

Golden Post Awards return

The Golden Post Awards is a completely free program dedicated to recognizing outstanding use of social media by government agencies. Your hard work, which frequently involves high stakes, high expectations and limited resources in facilitating open communication with the public, doesn’t go unnoticed, and we invite everyone to join the special ceremony to cheer on your peers. We can’t wait to recognize our finalists and all that you do during the Golden Post Awards ceremony at the conference where we’ll name the winners of each category.

What happens when GSMCON ends

What we’ve heard from past attendees time and time again is not only the high caliber sessions offered during the conference, but also the genuine camaraderie created at the event. Who else knows best what you’re going through than other government social media professionals just like you?

Get together at the Welcome Reception, meet one another at the Restaurant Romp, at Networking Breaks, during the sessions themselves and even after hours. GSMCON is just the beginning of finding your socialgov support system where the camaraderie lasts long after the event ends.

But, it’s not only these friendships you’ll gain — you’ll walk away or log off with the right information to elevate your role, confidently communicate and become the best government social media professional. We can’t wait to see you at GSMCON2022!
